Lincoln Blache is songwriter, producer, rapper and singer out of Mississauga, Ontario. In 2009 Lincoln had his first shot at international success with the hit single “Runnin”, teaming up with successful Dj’s Doman & Gooding. The song went number one in the UK and also gained heavy rotation on MTV Europe beating out moguls Beyonce, Lady Gaga and new comer Kid Cudi for the top spot on the dance charts, earning Lincoln his first nominations: JUNO (2010)-Best Dance Recording and Canadian Radio music awards (2010) – Best Rhythmic/ Hot AC Recording.

In his very own recording studio, the 20 year old also writes Pop, R&B and Rock music to go along with his own urban pop spin. Lincoln is working on his debut album “TELEPATHY.” Teaming up once again with Grammy Nominated production team Tone Mason along with Chuck and Joe, he is ready to perform a musical makeover.

April 20th 2011 marked the day that Lincoln Blache released his debut EP "Lincoln High". The EP includes 10 tracks recorded with a concept based on Lincoln's High school experience as a young man reaching for the stars and taking the ultimate risks in achieving his dreams of being a successful recording artist. "Lincoln High" was conceptualized, written and recorded in multiple cities including Toronto, Atlanta, and L.A due to traveling tour dates.

The EP is diverse and it showcases Lincoln's numerous attributes such as writing singing and rapping. It captures the essence of High School in a rhythmic motion. Love stories, heartbreaks in a cool, calm and collected manner. Lincoln is an individual you need to keep on your radar.

The Infamous Mobb Deep member, Prodigy, has not wasted any of his valuable time since being released from a prison sentence. His dedication to his music and his fans is as persistent as ever. He's released a new EP titled "The Ellsworth Bumpy Johnson Story EP".

Since being incarcerated for three years on gun possession, the Queens, New York emcee has been working hard in the studio. Since his recent release, he's announced a book tour for "My Infamous Life: The Autobiography of Mobb Deep's Prodigy", he's released some tracks, including a shocking one featuring Nas, and he's been in the studio with associates since as early as the first day of his release.

Who exactly is Ellsworth "Bumpy" Johnson?

Born on October 31, 1905 and died on July 7, 1968, Ellsworth Raymond "Bumpy" Johnson, was a mob boss and bookmaker in New York City's Harlem neighborhood. The main Harlem associate of the Genovese crime family, Johnson's criminal career has inspired films and television. Bumpy was the toast of Harlem, and became friends with many Harlem luminaries such as Bill "Bojangles" Robinson, Lena Horne, Billie Holiday, Sugar Ray Robinson. He also became sort of an unofficial crime boss of Harlem; no one could conduct criminal activities in his section of New York without first going through him.

The very first time Nitty Scott MC charged her way on this blog, this writer entered a state of excitement and anticipation. She had just dropped her video for her "Monster" freestyle and had released two songs to go along with it.

My reaction to those songs is as follows: "Her charismatic aura plus her critical yet soothing delivery of words and rhymes reminds me so much of Lauryn Hill. Not only that, but this particular female is like the wittiness of Jean Grae fused with the rawness of Foxy Brown. I know comparing a new comer to Lauryn Hill may sound ludicrous but believe me once you listen to her, you'll love it."

The second time I found myself posting about Nitty, I found myself in a state of competitiveness and joy, these were my words: "Watch out mainstream, there might be a new queen knocking over the current multi-hair-coloured-aesthetic-silicone-filled "top" female MC. (Cheap shots? I think so)"

Aris Jerome, the director of the video, continues to build an impressive resume with his exceptional and captivating videos. Free At Last And Back In The Lab: Prodigy's Return

Ever since Prodigy, Grammy Award winning rapper and member of the hip-hop duo Mobb Deep which also consists of Havoc, entered the industry, he took it by storm. Countless classic albums by Mobb Deep and Prodigy alone have solidified the Queensbridge duo as hip hop legends.

Havoc and Prodigy started rhyming in 1986, then later they both attended the High School of Art and Design in New York City. Havoc took the role of producer and secondary MC, while Prodigy assumed the position of primary MC. Originally dubbing themselves the Poetical Profits, the duo later changed its name to Mobb Deep in order to "reflect their reputation on the streets." To this fan, Mobb Deep is perhaps one of the greatest hard-core East Coast hip-hop groups of all times. Prodigy and Havoc are best known for their dark and hardcore delivery, gritty instrumentals and their never-ending vivid exploitation of the harsh realities in today's ghetto neighbourhoods. Below are two of my favourite Mobb Deep videos; Shook Ones Part II and Quiet Storm. Quiet Storm is probably in my top 5 videos of all time.

Mobb Deep as a group have released 9 albums: Juvenile Hell (1993), The Infamous (1995), Hell on Earth (1996), Murda Muzik (1999), Infamy (2001), Amerikaz Nightmare (2004), Blood Money (2006), The Infamous Archives (2007), The Safe Is Cracked (2009).

Recently, Prodigy served a three-year prison sentence in a midstate correctional facility. He was officially released on March 7, 2011.

Prodigy comes from a musical family—his grandfather, Budd Johnson, and his uncle Keg Johnson are remembered for their contributions to the Bebop era of jazz. In the year 2000, Prodigy took a temporary break from the group and released his first solo effort. "H.N.I.C." which stands as an acronym for "Head N**** In Charge". Prodigy enlisted a number of producers for the album, including The Alchemist, EZ Elpee, Rockwilder, Just Blaze and his Mobb Deep partner Havoc. The single "Keep It Thoro" (embedded below) received moderate video and radio rotation. A sequel, H.N.I.C. Pt. 2 was released April 22, 2008.

Since his release from prison, Prodigy has been locked up inside the studio with Havoc, close affiliate The Alchemist, a hip hop producer, DJ and rapper from Beverly Hills, California. I stumbled upon a UStream of Prodigy in the booth and the excitement became a constant build up until I saw Prodigy enter the recording booth and start reciting these rhymes that had me reminiscing the old Prodigy. A new song has been released titled, "Dog Shit" which features previous affiliate turned enemy and now friend, Nas.

It feels like it's the return of the late 90's. Keep your eyes out for new music by Mobb Deep and Prodigy.

OMG, God damn is he really going to make a post about this? WOOP yes he is!

There has been quite the controversy surrounding this young man as to whether this kind of music is destroying the rap game, or is it just the type of music that has an impact on what is hot right now? Lil B the Based God, also part of The Pack, has been making progress with his career, from his social media following on Twitter, to his millions of views on YouTube. He's been featured on the XXL Freshmen's list this year and has even had Diddy bring him out during a show in Texas.

Lil B has garnered a huge following and strong fan base, and has a lot of people "cooking". Want to know how to cook? Check out the video embedded below.

This Master Chef has released a few mixtapes, the most recent one called "Illusions of Grandeur", which features one single that has impressed many called "Base For Your Face", which can be viewed in the audio below. "Base For Your Face" is produced by 9th Wonder, a hip hop producer, DJ, lecturer and rapper from Raleigh, North Carolina, U.S.A., and it features underground heavyweight femcee(female emcee) Jean Grae and one third of Little Brother, Phonte.

From (insert derogatory female term here) on his (insert the name for the male private parts) 'cause he looks like _________ (fill in the blank with any word you like) to "cooking", to controversial songs. Hate him or love him Lil B can possibly be the hottest thing in the near future.

There's a lot of buzz surrounding this 20 year old singer/songwriter straight out of Toronto, who goes by The Weeknd. With the release of his debut mixtape House of Balloons, which dropped on March 21st, Abel Tesfaye (the man behind the music) could be the next big thing to blow up. The mixtape has smooth melodies and is something the game could use right now.

Toronto native Drizzy Drake shows his support for The Weeknd, as he has recently been tweeting lyrics off the House of Balloons mixtape. With that said, there has been rumors circulating that producer 40 (Noah Shebib) who works closely with Drake, produced the mixtape for The Weeknd. The rumors were then clarified on Twitter when The Weeknd tweeted he didn't have input on the tape.

Recently, I made a post about how dissatisfied I was with the state of the R&B genre. I typed away my thoughts and I used Trey Songz as a reference of how R&B had really downgraded down the ladder. I am actually quite relieved to make this post because ever since I began to listen to this artists work I've been listening to it quite frequently.

Born Glenn H. Adams Jr., the gifted Plainfield, New Jersey native has spent the better part of his life on some form of a stage. Growing up on healthy helpings of classic soul singers like Al Green, Sam Cooke, and Luther Vandross provided him with a solid musical foundation; but his more direct influences were contemporaries like Prince, Lauryn Hill, and D'Angelo.

As a member of an extracurricular high school program partnered with the New Jersey Performing Arts Center, Lenny's original aspiration was to be an actor. After seeing awe-inspiring performances by some of his music idols, he was compelled to try his hand at singing instead, and soon began honing his craft by performing at local talent shows. He eventually crossed paths with veteran music executive Darnell Scott, and was given the "big break" that aspiring artists always dream about.

Under the new direction of entertainment and media mogul Forrest Renaissance of BlackBelt Music Group and KYA Entertainment, Lenny recently released his long-awaited full-length debut album, The Journal of Wonders: Tales of the Phoenix in the Moon Labyrinth on March 22nd, 2011.

Before meeting Scott, Lenny would find himself on the very stage that inspired him to become a vocalist. Under his old moniker CHANJ, Lenny proved an undeniable force to be reckoned with when he appeared as an "Amateur Night" contestant on Showtime at the Apollo.

Commanding an audience known globally for its fiercely critical and sometimes brutal reception, he put his own stamp on Floetry's highly received sensual ballad "Say Yes." It was the mark of a consummate performer, as he recalls, "It was a lukewarm reception as I began to sing the song, but I just kept going… it turned into cheers and people standing and clapping." He won the challenge not once, but four times— earning a $25,000 dollar grand prize for his final victory. Footage of his captivating performance of the song on the Apollo and shows at other live venues has generated thousands of hits on YouTube.

After friends insisted the song’s originators see him pay homage at the Apollo performance, former Floetry vocalist Marsha Ambrosius was equally impressed with his version of her composition and was thrilled to work with him on the track "Give it All." He says of the Grammy-winning songwriter, "Working with Marsha was incredible. I'm such a fan of hers and she wound up being a fan of me too, which made for great chemistry in the studio." Lenny was able to nurture his own budding skills as a songwriter on the project while working alongside a host of industry heavy-hitters. He says, "I really just wanted to get involved with different people with different ideas. And I wanted to learn a lot so that I would have a lot more knowledge on how to really construct a song, or really get the best out of a harmony." In addition to Ambrosius, some of his collaborators included Jaime Foxx, Teddy Riley, Dre & Vidal, Adonis, and Day 26's Robert Curry and Mike City.

From Toronto, With Love Presents Sampling Hindi Music

Remember the middle school days when hip hop club music was the only thing they'd play at all ages events and house parties?

That's the type of music that initially swayed me into this internal love for the art. Believe me if I were to ever throw a house party all you would hear are the tunes we have grown fond of.

Some of these songs feature sampling from Hindi music. My knowledge of Hindi music isn't the greatest but I am positive that when Hip Hop samples it, great results are produced.

Let's get into it then.

The first song is titled "React" and it was the single of an album by the same name by Hip Hop veterans Erick Sermon & Redman. The song contains a sample of female Hindi-language singer Meena Kapoor performing "Chandhi Ka Badan" from a 1963 Bollywood film "Taj Mahal". The sampled line, 'Kisi Ko Khudkushi ka shok ho tow uh huh kya kare' translates as "If someone has suicidal interests, what can we do?" and it is followed by Erick Sermon responding with, "Whatever she said, then I'm that". The use of the sample drew criticism from the Hindi-speaking community but we're not here to dwell on that.

The song is produced by beatsmith Just Blaze who honestly has an amazing catalogue and resume. It's no wonder that this song was a big hit back then, it's funny, catchy and appropriate for the club scene. Plus, I'm a a hundred percent positive that Erick nor Redman actually knew what the translation of the sampled voice was.

The second song is by duo Timbaland & Magoo titled "Indian Flute" featured on the album "Under Construction, Part III". Timbaland is the producer of the song and if there is one thing you must know about Timbaland is that he loves to sample music from different cultures. I've already posted one which was Jay-Z's "Big Pimpin". Moving forward the song "Indian Flute" contains an uncredited sample of "Curura" by Totó La Momposina and uncredited vocals from Raje Shwari, an American contemporary R&B and Indian music singer and songwriter. (Don't worry I'm on my way to writing a post about her and her uncredited work on many songs) Although the song originally features the samples of a Colombian song, it is the words of Raje Shwari who makes this particular song associated with Hindi music.

The third song is The Black Eyed Peas and their single "Don't Phunk With My Heart" from their album "Monkey Business". The samples used in the song were taken from two Indian songs from two 1970s Hindi/Indian movies: "Ye Mera Dil Pyaar Ka Diwana" from Don (1978) and "Ae Naujawan Hai Sub" from Apradh (1972). Both songs were originally composed by Kalyanji Anandji and sung by Asha Bhosle. The song was sampled by Black Eyed Peas member Will I Am.

Deon, Toronto recording artist, recently released his first mixtape titled Love & Dreams. The mixtape features Deon laying his thoughts, perspectives and experiences to songs originally recorded by Adele, John Mayer, Demi Lovato, Dweli, J. Cole and Jill Scott. Although the content of the mixtape matches it's title you can't help but pick up a nostalgic feeling while listening to it but that's not to say it's a bad characteristic. Deon shows a great amount of potential and expect a lot of great content from this artist. To further add on, there's something about his instrumental selection that intrigues me, it's great to say the least. The greatest plus about his mixtape is that it's enjoyable and very smooth.

Hip Hop Is Left Mourning As Another Legend Dies

On March 15th, 2011, Nate Dogg, G-Funk Pioneer, died in Long Beach, California from complications related to his previous heart strokes which occurred on December 19, 2007 and September 2008.

Erica Beckwith told MTV News that Nate Dogg had been released on December 26 after being treated for a stroke and had been admitted to a medical-rehab facility to assist him in his recovery. In January 2008, it was officially reported that the stroke had rendered the left side of his body paralyzed. Doctors believed there would be a full recovery, and his voice was not affected. In September 2008, Nate suffered his second stroke. Warren G later confirmed that since the second stroke, Nate was undergoing physical therapy in an attempt to return to some normality, but it was unclear whether Nate would be able to resume his singing career.

Tributes poured in from collaborators and friends such as Ludacris, The Game, 50 Cent, Snoop Dogg, Daz, Xzibit, Erykah Badu, Murs, Big Pooh, Big Skye, Fabolous, Sheist, Knoc-Turn'al, Ice-T, Warren G and Eminem.

Known for his mellow and unique choruses during Death Row Records golden days, Nate Dogg exploded onto the music scene as Warren G's partner-in-crime on their hit single "Regulate." His unique voice and musical ability will never be duplicated. Hip Hop is left mourning as another great passes away.

Re-Introducing The Forgotten: Nyle

Nyle, a Philly born veteran of the New York City Underground, has spent the past half-decade unfolding an interesting journey through rap. A New York University student, Nyle would became a staple within New York City’s SinSin Circuit, one of the city’s most respected collections of rappers, winning the Off-the-Head Game Show Battle, and 2006 Best Freshman MC award. In 2007, Nyle released his debut album "Frosh".

The album was well received and found its way to the top of college charts as Nyle began to fill venues around the East Coast from clubs to college auditoriums. Nyle closed out his college career headlining a sold-out concert which featured Hip Hop staples Asher Roth, Kidz In the Hall, 88 Keys, Izza Kizza, and Hot 97’s Peter Rosenberg. The next day, Nyle released a music video for his hit cover single ‘Let The Beat Build’, which was immediately proclaimed as one of the year’s most innovative music videos. Forget "Pump It Up" and witness the growth and genius of Joe Budden, a rapper from Jersey City, New Jersey.

In 2004, Joe Budden released "Mood Muzik: The Worst of Joe Budden" which is the first installment of his infamous Mood Muzik series. This mixtape showed a different side of him, a side that eventually took his career to another direction. In 2005, the second installment arrived, "Mood Muzik 2: Can It Get Any Worse?" which again solidified Joe Budden as one of the best lyricst to ever do it. After releasing the second installment, conflicts with his major record label, Def Jam Recordings which is an American hip-hop record label, owned by Universal Music Group, Joe Budden and Def Jam went separate ways. Around this time, Joe Budden used the internet to market himself which led to presently having a cult following with his fans who enjoy his music. Highly criticized as a mixtape series that heavily underlines depression and encourages depression, this ~~writer~~ fan heavily disagrees. Although, the series deals with depression it's quite the opposite if encouraging it. This series provides therapy, it provides the listener an outlet of reinforcement, it promotes hope. The Notorious B.I.G, born Christopher Wallace, dominated the music scene in the 90's. His music is still relevant to this day and age. Finding words to describe the legacy Biggie Smalls left behind is one of the hardest things you can ask me to do. A trend setter in the music world The Black Frank White is greatly missed and will forever remain as the greatest ever in the hearts of many.

On March 8, 1997, he presented an award to Toni Braxton at the 11th Annual Soul Train Music Awards in Los Angeles and was booed by some of the audience.

After the ceremony, Wallace attended an after party hosted by Vibe magazine and Qwest Records at the Petersen Automotive Museum in Los Angeles. Other guests included Faith Evans, Aaliyah, Sean Combs, and members of the Bloods and Crips gangs.

On March 9, 1997, at around 12:30 a.m., Wallace left with his entourage in two GMC Suburbans to return to his hotel after the Fire Department closed the party early because of overcrowding.Wallace traveled in the front passenger seat alongside his associates, Damion "D-Roc" Butler, Junior M.A.F.I.A. member Lil' Cease and driver, Gregory "G-Money" Young. Combs traveled in the other vehicle with three bodyguards. The two trucks were trailed by a Chevrolet Blazer carrying Bad Boy's director of security.

By 12:45 a.m., the streets were crowded with people leaving the event. Wallace's truck stopped at a red light 50 yards (46 m) from the museum. A black Chevrolet Impala pulled up alongside Wallace's truck. The driver of the Impala, an African American male dressed in a blue suit and bow tie, rolled down his window, drew a 9 mm blue-steel pistol and fired at the GMC Suburban; four bullets hit Wallace in the chest. Wallace's entourage rushed him to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, but he was pronounced dead at 1:15 a.m.

Cormega: Born And Raised

New York is known for producing some of the greatest lyricist to ever grace the crust of a struggle-filled planet full of soul and charisma, Hip Hop. Filled with artists putting together tongue twisting figurative language, with unforgettable style and tales filled with emotion, character, heart breaks and the mind of poverty.

Enter Cormega, a Hip Hop artist, born in Bedford-Stuyvesant but grew up in the Queensbridge Housing Projects in Long Island City, Queens. Growing up he formed childhood friendships with future artists such as future nemesis Nas, the legendary duo of Mobb Deep, Nature and duo of Capone-N-Noreaga. When he was 4, Cormega witnessed his mother being murdered. Jail sentences and other unfortunate events put a hold to his ambitions of pursuing a rapping career. Nas directed a great amount of awareness towards Cormega in his song "One Love".

A later collaboration with Nas led to the creation of the rap group, The Firm, which also consisted of Nas, AZ and Foxy Brown. Disagreements with Steve Stoute led to Cormega being ousted of the group and replaced by Nature. A fallout quickly happened and friendships were ruined. Since then Nas and Cormega have reunited and settled their difference. The Firm went to release one album titled "The Album" that revolved around mafioso rap-themes, and featured notable production work from Dr. Dre and the Trackmasters.

Cormega is one of those underrated artists from the golden era who was never able to break through and capitalize like his childhood friends. He is a lyrical magician with an incredible story to tell. Born and Raised is the fifth studio album he's released. It was released on October 20, 2009, after suffering several delays; the album was originally titled Urban Legend but was changed to Born and Raised after rapper T.I. used the original title for his 2004 release. The album has been met with mostly positive reviews from both fans and critics so far.

He has recently released a cool video for one of my favourite songs on the album, Rapture. The songs features Cormega vividly painting on a canvas of experiences and attitude. A story of nothing to something.

Lasers: Meeting Expectations

Lupe Fiasco, Wasalu Muhammad Jaco, is an artist/producer and CEO of 1st and 15th Entertainment, who has rightfully earned the title as one of the wittiest and versatile artists in mainstream hip hop. After releasing two successful and well received albums, "Lupe Fiasco's Food & Liquor" and "Lupe Fiasco's The Cool", the artist quickly began to work on his third installment titled "Lasers".

The reviews haven't been the greatest and I couldn't understand why people simply couldn't just enjoy the music. Then it hit me. It's because this album is being compared to two outstanding previous albums. Now, I've always been the type of listener that embraces growth in an artist and I certainly embrace Lupe with open arms. No, this album isn't Food & Liquor or The Cool, but it's very Lupe, it's Lasers. While people have the right to state their opinions, as lucrative as they may be to me, this album is with out a doubt a great album.

Is "The Blueprint 3" as great as "The Blueprint"? No, not by a long shot. "Illmatic" or "It Was Written"? That isn't the question that we should be asking. The question should be is this a great album? It's still Lupe Fiasco delivering his usual two cents with every song. Even Trey Songz sounded like his old self. Was this album too pop oriented? No, not at all. Sometimes by just listening, your ears pick up sounds you never heard before. This album isn't great just because of it's sound but of what it represents, the struggle, the power and the love. Oh, he still hasn't "dumbed it down".

Lupe Fiasco - The Show Goes On

The original title of “Lasers” was, "LupE.N.D.", and it was meant to be Fiascos third and final record, but his contract obligations with Atlantic Records prevented him from continuing with his desired game plan. "LupE.N.D." was postponed open-endedly and he anticipated on releasing an album titled "The Great American Rap Album" scheduled for a June 2009 release. The album faced another drawback as it was postponed once again. He announced that a new album was in the works, originally titled "We Are Lasers" and then he decided to shorten its name to "Lasers". "Lasers" is a backronym, a phrase constructed purposely such that an acronym can be formed to a specific word, for "Love Always Shines Everytime, Remember 2 Smile" In 2010, in hopes of promoting the message Fiasco encrypted into this album, he released a viral video via YouTube titled "The L.A.S.E.R.S. Manifesto” which is embedded below.

"To every man, woman, and child: We want an end to the glamorization of negativity in the media. We want an end to status symbols dictating our worth as individuals. We want a meaning and universal education system. We want not compromise who we are to be accepted by the crowd. We want the invisible walls that separate by wealth, race and class to be torn down. We want to think our own thoughts. We will be responsible for our environment. We want clarity and truth from our elected officials or they should move aside… We will not lose because we are not losers, we are lasers… Lasers are revolutionary. Lasers are the future."

Lupe Fiasco announced on his Twitter page that “Lasers” is complete and is waiting for Atlantic Records to release it. Richard Barker, a fan waiting on the album, put together an online petition with the help of Rhymestyle from the "LupEND Blog" fan site, demanding that Atlantic Records release Lasers, due to the fact the album was announced last year and still doesn't have a release date. The petition garnered considerable attention on hip hop blog sites as well as attaining over 5,000 signatures on its first day. It has since reached over 32,000 signatures. A number of Lupe Fiasco fans set up a protest called "Fiasco Friday" which led to the fans protesting outside Atlantic Records' offices in New York City on October 15, 2010. On October 7, 2010, Lupe Fiasco tweeted "Victory!" along with posting a picture of himself and Atlantic President, Julie Greenwald. On October 8, Atlantic Records tweeted the release date for "Lasers" would be March 8, 2011.

There is no doubt that the Pornography industry definitely shares miscellaneous ties with the Hip Hop industry and because of these relations we've seen a lot of failed attempts. Yes, this is referring to the horrendous music by Pornstars such as the paper-clip-like-jewelery wearing Brian Pumper and the pink-haired-award-winning Pinky. (We in no way shape or form encourage you to listen to these two "artists")

Not all is lost because this relationship between the industries is responsible for some amazing work as well. Artists like Eminem, Nelly, Snoop Dogg, 50 Cent, Ray-J, R.Kelly, Jay-Z and etc. have featured some of these women on their music videos. The relation that ultimately brings these two industries together is the well known fact of artist and their well known polygamous desires and objectification of women but we won't dwell on that topic because it's such a complex situation that deserve a number a discussion posts.

Fast forward a couple of years and on March 31st 2010 a video by an upcoming artist, J The S, makes it's debut on the net. The Massachusetts born artist earned the opportunities of opening shows for artists such as Kool G Rap, AZ, Fat Joe, Slaughterhouse, Brother Ali, Talib Kweli and Wu-Tang Clan ensured the young rapper respect from the hip-hop veterans. J The S's (which is short for Jake The Snake) music reflects the thoughts of someone who’s seen and experienced much during his life. He was exposed to the criminal underworld from a young age, first as a child in his household and later on his own as an adult. Though he can speak with authority about that lifestyle, his music embodies more than just a street mentality. His work as a teacher in Boston, in which he facilitated youth-oriented programs focusing on social issues and politics, reflects an intelligence and depth that defies his young age.

Recently his “The Lover/Fighter Document EP” was on the nomination list for Best Rap Album at the 2011 Grammy's. Unfortunately, they failed to acknowledge the soul and the album only made it through the first round of nominations on the 53rd Grammy Entry List for category 35 – Best Rap Album.

J. Cole, is an American Hip Hop recording artists and producer, who was the first artist that was signed to Jay-Z's label Roc Nation, management, music publishing and entertainment company. Roc Nation has expanded it's roster and has become home to some incredible talents; Hugo, Willow Smith, Jay Electronica, Rita Ora, Bridget Kelly, Alexis Jordan, Blaze Bogatinov, Sean Garret, Nebo Uyanwah and K. Koke. The label also manages Rihanna, Wale, Melanie Fiona, No I.D, Solange Knowles and etc.

Back to the German born Fayetteville, North Carolina resider who has worked his way to becoming one of the best word-smiths in the Hip Hop community. J. Cole is often compared to Nas, despite being Jay-Z's Protege, and in fact the comparisons to the Queensbridge living legend are quite right. Cole presents a confident flow packed with witty figurative speech that leaves listeners nodding their heads, pausing and rewinding his music. He finds a way to analyze his feelings that is undeniably heartfelt and create an elemental bond with his listeners.

J. Cole is quite the prospect. He is symbolized as the one artist who will finally bring back intelligence and creativity to the Hip Hop mainstream world. He still has a long way to go. He needs to find his way into the radar of mainstream with out selling out and maintaining his unique identity. He had the perfect opportunity to and here's how he passed it up.

One of my favorite songs by J. Cole is titled "In The Morning" and recently he released a remix that features Drake. The theme of the song goes hand to hand with the vibe provided by the instrumental. This is one of those songs that when you listen to it, you imagine a video for it. You visualize yourself in this video.

The video released definitely wasn't what I expected. I was in fact greatly disappointed that two artists of their potential would release such a visually weak video. Drake has a resume of releasing uncreative videos except for "Find Your Love" (we're still waiting for the continuation). I didn't think that J. Cole was going to disappoint the same way.

Is music really as strong as it's visuals? Yes, there are times where the video completes the music. Look at Michael Jackson's "Remember The Time" and understand that visuals should be as important as the actual music. I know that mentioning Michael Jackson isn't a fair comparison but J. Cole truly has the potential to be someone with a great legacy. Let's hope that his other songs such as, "Light's Please" and "Higher" receive a better treatment.

Miami‘s Winter Music Conference has asked him to host his own panel on his invention ‘Digital Juggling’ which is a style of Jing that fuses turntablism and pianist-style keystrokes on the laptop. 1.83 million viewers heard his opening music on the Juno Awards (the Canadian Grammy’s). After hearing the revolutionary Michael Jackson had passed away, M-Rock immediately re-composed and remixed 8 MJ tracks in the same week, receiving play from DJs in cities like New York, London, Goa, Melbourne, Barcelona, Athens and multiple other locations.

Wale, no stranger to this blog, has released a visual for "The Break Up Song" off of his most recent mixtape, "More About Nothing". In recent news, Wale is now an official member of the expanding Maybach Music Group record label, which is founded by mainstream heavy weight Rick Ross.

The video is directed by Walu & DJ Omega, and features a great concept that goes hand to hand with Wale's story telling abilities. This seems like a piece of cake for Wale. Many Canadians know that the rap scene up north is not getting the credit it deserves. There are many talents that have yet to be discovered, but for one, there is another young man who's about to make an impact in the Rap game. Another Canadian rapper about to blow up on main stream is the young man Tory Lanez. This Toronto rapper was recently signed to Sean Kingston's T.I.M.E Is Money Ent. and has dropped a mixtape entitled "Mr. Peterson".

He recently blew up over the internet and had a buzz surrounding him when Justin Beiber supposedly stole his lyrics for a freestyle he did over Vado's "Speaking In Tongues". His lyrics are smooth and pack a punch with a quick flow that corresponds. Aside from rapping, Tory Lanez is planning on dropping an R&B album for the ladies in February. Now this may bring to mind another Toronto rapper who raps and sings, Drake. Maybe Lanez is trying to follow his strategy?

"A Kid Named Cudi", the mixtape that initially kick started his career, to this very single day remains Cudi's best work. His two recent albums, "Man on the Moon: The End of Day" and "Man on the Moon II: The Legend of Mr. Rager" all fall short of competing with his initial release.

They both lack the creativity and the charisma that "A Kid Named Cudi" brought. This mixtape featured the attraction of relation. There was nothing witty about Kid Cudi and there still isn't. His music gives you the feeling that you can relate to what he's writing, singing and rapping. Plus, the production featured instrumentals that majority of artists wouldn't be able to write too, at that time.

The music that he released is type universal, it featured the insecurities, the love, the hate, the ex's, the lovers and the humour. It's kind of irresistible not to relate to the emotions he shared because as a male, first and foremost, you find comfort in another individual describing what you're going through. He preached the idea of being yourself and not to worry about what others think. As mentioned above, there really isn't any lyrical skill that Cudi holds but it was simply the charisma (meaning all of the relating) and the unheard sound he delivered. After all it's not easy making a club banger by exhaling your emotions on a futuristic song.

His albums follow the exact type of formula but somehow don't have the same appeal as his first release. Simplicity at it's best is somehow the most effective.

Busta Rhymes: The Individual

Growing up around the environment and era that I did, it was rare for a artist to be different. Resembling every other music genre, Hip Hop was going through a trend. We can exhibit this in today's Hip Hop by distinguishing the evident similar sounding instrumentals, tireless use of the term swag, and the claims of spending roughly $10, 000 on marijuana monthly. There is one source to blame for this trend; the listener.

There was one artist who wasn't afraid to display his true self. To have fun with his videos and to step outside of the box. Watching his videos at the ages of 11-16, I didn't really find it all that interesting because it wasn't something I was used to seeing. I couldn't cope with his artistic integrity or his vision.

Now after studying a bit of the self and theories by many philosophers, I fully see his work with a different eye, ear and mind. The level of confidence required of a artist to create this sort of work justifies their authenticity and their desire to remain their true self with out following the trends.

Busta Rhymes has always found ways to take his music to the next level. He's truly an incredible artist who now at an older age finds it hard to compete with such a trend oriented state of Hip Hop that his work has begun to dwindle and re-form into what the record labels are pushing for. Jonathan Emile is a Jamaican Canadian poet, composer, producer, student, entrepreneur and a cancer survivor hailing from Montreal Canada.

He's the founder of Mindpeacelove Enterprises and is currently attending McGill University as a Philosophy & Political Science Major.

Watch The Throne: Analyzing H.A.M

Historically, Kanye West and Jay-Z have created some great and powerful music together. We've witnessed the duo deliver classics over soul sampled instrumentals that mostly featured Jay releasing an arsenal full of figurative speech that made it nearly impossible not to favourite.

It really is no surprise that they would release a collaborative album together, after all Kanye has a song that is dedicated to Jay-Z and their story together.

Kanye West - Big Brother

Watch The Throne is the name of the collaborative release and the title fits appropriately due to the fact that they are two heavyweights in the mainstream world, no scratch that, even in the underground world, listeners love these two artists. The first single is titled "H.A.M" and it is produced by Lex Luger, the man who produced Rick Ross's "Blowin' Money Fast" and Waka Flocka Flames "Oh Let's Do It".

Based on this first single, it seems like the album will feature Kanye West being assaulted and owned verse for verse on every single song. Right? Or maybe it’s just because I’m a Jay fan and that is perhaps one of his best recent verses.

The instrumental becomes a nuisance after a while because besides the sample, it really offers nothing exciting or new. It features the same pattern as Waka’s song and Rick Ross's. I wish they would of gotten back to their old formula, and messed with some soulful samples because that’s really what mainstream needs and what fans really fell in love with. It feels like they are desperately trying to follow a trend but what they fail to realize is that they were and still are the trendsetters. People would like their song regardless of what the song was based on the simple fact that it’s Kanye and Jay.

None the less people will adore this song and it will make a lot of noise on the radio and the clubs. I guess it's like Jay said "N***** want my old s*** buy my old album."

There is one artist who can definitely deliver his syllables, metaphors, similes and anything that comes out of his mouth in such slick and smooth fashion that you would think he was the one who talked Britney into shaving her head all bald.

Wale has a way with words and it all started when I originally heard his song titled "Nike Boots" which despite the title, represents unification. After that, I kept my ears out for him and what he had in store was not disappointing. I have to say he's at his best when his content revolves around women and real life situations.

The song that is going to be posted is from his most recent mixtape, "More About Nothing", and the song is titled "The War". The mixtape is a follow up to "The Mixtape About Nothing" and both mixtapes sample comprehensively from Seinfeld, and Wale delivers his verses with frequent references to jokes from the series.

The song is a breakdown of a relationship and how the progress isn't like that of wine (the whole concept that things get better with time). We hear Wale exploring his emotions and it is one song that nobody in this world will have trouble not relating too.

It's hard to believe that he hasn't reached the success of his mainstream peers.

The power of the blogging world is quite amazing and for someone like me it is an essential part of my life as I have been privileged to encounter some amazingly talented artists.

Mara Hruby is a 22 year old female artist hailing from Oakland, California and is quickly garnering a well deserved buzz. Her sound is melodic yet powerful enough to sway your essence into her story and soul. On November 30th, 2010. Mara released a seven track EP tittled "From Her Eyes".

I don't know about you guys but this song has got to be one of the songs that will stick with me for the rest of my life. It is unforgettable, it's funny and it's pretty melodic.

The music video, directed by Chris Applebaum, features numerous comedic acts demonstrating a boy's efforts to get closer to his girlfriend’s mother, played by the stunning-goddess-like Rachel Hunter. Also, the music video and song pay homage to The Cars, rock band that emerged in the late 1970’s, and their song, “Just What I Needed”.

I hope I really surprised you with this one, what can I say? I’m never going to let go to these moments of music.

I don't know about some of you but my favourite rapper used to be Nelly. I didn't exactly find him lyrical, the deepest or heck even just the best out there but I knew one thing, he made good music that I can have a good time too.

I was a white little boy with minimal knowledge of the English language wearing clothes from Goodwill but I loved the sound he had. His music is forced by some unforgettable hooks and nonsense verses that you couldn't help but love.

I actually believe Nelly changed commercial hip hop for the fact that he was singing on his songs and that's when the Ja Rule Era spawned. It should really be called The Pimp Juice Era because Nelly dictated the billboards and the clubs. When I come to think about it, Nelly came into the game with his own sound and when they greeted the success so well, everybody was sounding like Nelly. Much like many trends in Hip Hop.

If you are 20 to 25 years old, I will not believe you if you claim that you didn't like these songs.

Raje Shwari, Indian born, is an American contemporary R&B and Indian music singer and songwriter. She has appeared on several songs by hip hop musicians. She was signed to Beat Club Records by Timbaland but is no longer with the label because she didn't renew her contract due to their differences. Actually I'd be pretty mad if I did work for some major artists and never received the recognition I should of have.

Why am I doing a post on her? It's pretty simple, let me post the songs she's laid vocals on and you should understand why.

The Twilight Zone or should I say The 5'9" Zone!

Royce Da 5'9", Detroit Hip Hop recording artist, is probably one of the most underrated rappers in the industry. He is mostly recognized due to his association with Eminem, his famous dispute with Eminem and group D12, recording mainly with DJ Premier, Nottz and Carlos "6 July" Broady, as well as ghostwriting (writing songs for other artists) for the likes of P. Diddy and Dr. Dre. In recent news, he's also a member of rap group Slaughterhouse which features other underground heavyweights Joe Budden, Joell Ortiz and Crooked I. He has left a mark in the underground with his successful mixtape series, The Bar Exam, and has released several albums to further solidify himself as one of the elite rhyme sayers of the Hip Hop world. This one fellow is slick plus this overpowering delivery of his syllables that doesn't make it hard to believe that he can hold his own on songs featuring other elites.

In this particular song, Royce delivers one awesome story with a template bounding similarities to Twilight Zone episode. (Click Twilight Zone to know what it is) The video is directed by Rik Cordero. All Slaughterhouse members make a cameo.

For the last couple of years I have witnessed the R&B scene turn from being sensually-potent with deep figurative speech elaborating the blissful feel of the art of love making to converting the passions of human nature into a meaning-less facade.

Don't believe me? Turn to your favourite radio station and seek the top ten songs, the men either sing about performing sex and the women sing about relationship problems.

The problem lies in the human characteristic for this evident lust for greed. Greed turns artists into selling themselves. I'm positive that these artists grew up idolizing artists like Marvin Gaye, Luthor Vandross, Teddy Pendergrass, Anita Baker, Sade, Donny Hathaway, Al Green, Gladys Knight, Chaka Kahn, Stevie Wonder, Micheal Jackson, Patti Labelle, Aretha Franklin and etc. With influences as wonderful as the previous legends mentioned before how can the state of such a incredible art be at such a horrible condition?

My greatest example is Virginia's own, Trey Songz. This artist completely lost himself in the battle against greed. He is an amazing singer with an incredible first album to back up my claims. He came into the game with comparisons to R.Kelly and the support of Aretha Franklin. It still leaves me confused and bitter at the fact that I can't figure out where this gentleman went wrong! How could he of have gone wrong? Present R&B stars who are receiving overwhelming attention from the market (mostly females in their teens) release albums that in ten years won't be remembered. SEX SEX AND MORE SEX will be the demise of an art form that has soothed the hearts of millions of men and women and holds the dearest memories has turned into a melodic-porno genre of music.

Before some of you disagree with me, I want to clear things up, there are still artists who are continuing the legacy of the genre but you must keep in mind that these artist aren't getting the appreciation they deserve which only enforces the point of this post.

The Physics is trio out of Seattle. I recently started listening to them and I really enjoy their sound. It's truly relaxing. It's that type of music where you can be on your porch with a couple of friends and just hanging out. If you are a fan of the 90's hip hop music scene then I guarantee you that you will enjoy their music. They actually remind a little of Slum Village which is quite refreshing knowing that the main members of Slum Village have passed away. Their legacy lives on and this crew definitely has been influenced by the soothing sounds of Slum Village.

Similar to the first Locals Only post, this one will feature an amazing director with an ear for great music. Jon Jon Augustavo, a Seattle native, graduated from Washington State University in the communications program. He's a truly creative director, on this blog I've already posted several videos of his by Eighty4 Fly and Scribes but believe me when I tell that there will be several other ones.

Jon Jon has created a series titled "Good Times" with the intent of offering more that music videos by hip hop artists but also give the viewers and the fans a story of the artists. The first installment features Chicago area, DC-born rhymesayer, Dave Coresh. "Dave Coresh scribes melodies that bob heads, moves feet and affects the crowd with his powerful vibe. As an MC, one must be able to Move the Crowd, and with smooth beats accompanying his distinctive flow, the crowd falls victim to his vibrant charisma. Such is the bravado of Dave Coresh. No this will not be another freestyle over Kanye's "Runaway", but it will be the introduction of a new artist that I found.

Laws hails from Spring Hill, Florida. He's a very witty artist but I haven't heard all of his work to make a correct judgment or assessment on him. I immediately fell in love with this song on his 4:57(check it out) mixtape hosted by Don Cannon, I suggest you check it out it's a good one. I will say this though, the kid lacks a solid flow, it does at times get rather boring but it depends on the content, I guess.

The song I'm about to post was produced by The J.U.S.T.I.C.E LEAGUE, and it's a remake of the Yeah, Yeah, Yeahs Runaway. He does a great job at making this song easy to relate too.

Adriano Celentano, born in Milan, is an Italian singer, songwriter, comedian, actor, film director and TV host. He was influenced by none other than his idol Elvis Presley and the 1950s rock revolution. For the last 40 years he has released an impressive forty albums; comprising twenty nine studio albums, three live albums and eight compilations. In the 1970’s and 1980’s his films were commercially triumphant and he was labelled as the king of the Italian box office in low budget movies. As an actor, he is most remembered for, Serafino (1968), directed by Pietro Germi, as his best acting performance. Adriano has been able to establish relevancy in Italy and that is quite an impressive resume.

His music is truly great and inspirational. As mentioned before a big shout-out to my dad for playing this type of music around me. You can sit back and enjoy the sounds. Some have even gone to great lengths as crowning him King of Italian Music. I know very little about Italian music but I do know what my ears enjoy listening too, and this is just great timeless music.

This artist goes by the name of T.Shirt, and believe me he has this confident, mellow, charismatic and gritty flow that is sure to win over your ears. His beat selection is quite impressive, full of soul and charisma.

What sets him apart from all the artists I've promoted on this blog is that he's very artistically creative. It was the first trait I picked up once I visited his blogs. He's quite intelligent and plus shows this humble love towards the arts whether it's music, photography and fashion.

In 1995, Meth & Mary J, re-released the classic that has carved it's name in the hearts of many hip hop heads. This song is full of memories and emotions. I enjoy it more than the original and that is a very bold statement.

Wale & Tawiah - The Remake of a Remake (All I Need)

In 2008 a new face emerges in the hip hop world, and he goes by the name of Wale. He released an incredible mixtape titled, The Mixtape About Nothing, that was inspired by Seinfeld, the series. The mixtape samples comprehensively from Seinfeld, and Wale delivers his verses with frequent references to jokes from the series. Actress Julia Louis-Dreyfus, who plays the character Elaine Benes in Seinfeld, appears on the mixtape. This song was my favourite on the mixtape, it's a great ode that mixes both classics into one.

The Twilight Zone: The Eye of the Beholder

In 1959 a popular half-hour American television anthology series created by Rod Serling titled The Twilight Zone that is noted for its moral messages that focused on humanity without going into political messages hit the Television air waves. Each episode is a mixture of self-reliant fantasy, science fiction or horror, frequently concluding with a surprising ending. Rod Serling was brilliantly cautious in making sure that the unexpected twist was not for its own sake, as it usually broadcasted irony with what had happened before.

The Eye of the Beholder is one of The Twilight Zone's most adored and famous episodes, and with great reason; it's incredibly written, astoundingly executed, and packs a never forgetting fable like twist. While it's only a simple allegory, it plays an important role in symbolizing the superficial and judgmental mind of the Human race. The episode takes the form of a vessel that’s criticizing discrimination and segregation of our overly opinionated society.

Less Than Zero: Soundtrack

Less Than Zero is a 1987 American drama film barely based on the novel of the same name by Bret Easton Ellis. The film stars Andrew McCarthy as Clay, a college freshman who is returning home for Christmas, when he found out that his girlfriend Blair (Jami Gertz) had been engaging in sexual conduct with his high school friend, Julian, (Robert Downey Jr.) who is also a drug addict. Now at Christmas, Clay discovers Blair is still trying to recreate the good times, as if nothing has happened while he was away and witnesses Julian sinking further into drugs and being harassed by his drug dealer to whom he owes money too.

The movie highlights and explores the culture of wealthy youths in Los Angeles and enforces a strong anti-drug message. It is definitely worth a watch.

Maze, soul slash quiet storm band, was established in San Francisco, California in the early 1970s. It was founded by Frankie Beverly, Philadelphia native, who is an American singer, songwriter and producer. They have released six albums with five of them receiving Gold status sales.

This is one of my favourite songs by Maze. It's titled "I Need You".

Nesby Phips, Emcee/Producer from New Orleans, is the owner & operator of Bakadahouse Music, a production company which started in 2003, and long time associate of Curren$y. Last year Phips released the first edition of the Phips Files titled “The Phipstape”, but he’s mostly been recognized for the hard work he’s put in with underground heavyweight and childhood friend , Curren$y. The two have connected to make underground hits such as “Top of the Money”, “The Seventies”, “Lost in Transit”, “Mazaltov” & “Wave Race”.

There is a lot of speculation to whether Jay Elec will sell his soul once he enters the mainstream world. They believe MTV will change him. I strongly disagree.

Let's say he did have a video on MTV. I can only see greatness coming from it.
You have an artist who is keen on who he is. He knows what he represents. Can you imagine Jay Electronica giving you a visual for his Renaissance music?

To me, Jay Elec is a reincarnation of Talib, Mos Def and Scarface.

Why Scarface? Because Jay gives me that vibe. That real vibe. That everything I say is for my listeners.

Jay is a product of real hip hop. Having somebody of his calibre have a video on MTV will be revolutionary. You'll have an artist who will not sell out. An MC who is independent and has a powerful voice in underground hip hop. Jay Elec may be the only hope of making underground the new commercial.

That will be a day I desperately await because I'm tired of seeing Plies and Soulja Boy make videos and make music about irrelevant topics. I need powerful music. Music that exploits the ups and downs of life. Music that is real. Music with a feel. That club stuff is all cool, but real music is eternal.

What makes listening to this all the better is that I can actually recite the Jay-Z lyrics while listening to it. Not take anything away from Timbaland, but I think it would of have sounded better if the actual song was done this instrumental, the whole thing. It would give it such a authentic feel. Nonetheless, this an incredibly dope composition.

Middle School Love: Fabolous

The middle school years where a big part of my life because they are the years that I really started to listen to Hip Hop, being a new immigrant and all. An artist that really caught my ear was, Fabolous.

Fabolous really has a way with words whether it's speaking to the ladies, the clubs or just forming together punchlines. He's a great artist because he's consistent and he's flexible in his content. It's his signature laid back flow that capitalized his success.

Now the videos. If you were born in 1990 and you're a fan of hip hop how can you not love these songs? Every dance played these, every girl liked these which means you have had to like these songs. These songs are tied to memories about crushes, lunch breaks and dances.

La Musica di Silenzio: Andrea Bocelli

One of the great things about my father is his musical taste. He has this magical ear that prefers some of the best vocalists I have ever heard. His musical preference is quite amazing. He was raised on Italian music and to this day I thank him for playing them around me because the vocals and the composition of the music will be locked and sealed within my heart eternally. A perfect example of what music from the soul is.

One of my favourite artists is Andrea Bocelli. Mr. Bocelli is a blind Italian tenor, multi-instrumentalist and classical crossover artist. The man is often credited with the most beautiful voice in the world. Truthfully, there is nothing I can conjure up and write that will truly capture the splendour of his voice and the bloom in his music. If you ever want to start your day on a positive note make sure his music is a part of your morning routine.

Plus working at an Italian Banquet Hall for the last six years of my life has really helped me develop a strong liking for his music. The way they embrace his music and sing it word for word is such a priceless and motivating experience. I'm not Italian nor do I speak Italian but there is something about this language that is soothing.

If you are a fan of contemporary music, best believe this artist will become a favourite of yours.
